Pontaumur / Puy-de-Dôme
Pontaumur, in the Puy-de-Dôme in Auvergne, in the Haute-Combraille natural region...
When you stay at the *** Hotel Le Confluent, you're in the picturesque Auvergne village of Pontaumur, famous among organists who come from all over Europe to admire the exceptional organ in its 12th-century Romanesque church. An exact replica of the organ in Arnstadt (Thuringia, Germany) on which Johann Sebastian Bach composed his early works, this instrument was commissioned and built in the early 2000s as part of the Bach Festival in Combrailles. It is the instrument best suited to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in France.
Situated in the heart of the Puy-de-Dôme, Pontaumur offers an authentic experience in the heart of the Auvergne, combining unspoilt nature, rich history and culinary delights.
At the gateway to the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne (Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Nature Park), there's no shortage of outdoor activities in the immediate vicinity: hiking, mountain biking, climbing, paragliding and fishing, of course, with the Sioulet gorges just a stone's throw away to delight trout anglers.
